New Sewing Series With Cal Patch – “Make Your Own T-Shirt” – Starts September 28th!

Local designer-maker-whizz Cal Patch is back at RosenSpace later this month with a 4-week Make Your Own T-Shirt workshop! This class is a great introduction to pattern-drafting, as well as to sewing with knits.

Pre-class registration required by Wednesday, September 27. To register, send Cal an email at

  • Thursdays, September 28, October 5, (skips October 12), 19 + 26 from 6-8pm
  • Four 2-hour classes, $160

Note: Students must bring their own sewing machine, and have at least competent beginner sewing skills. Some homework will likely be necessary in order to complete the project.

In this class, you will learn to draft a pattern for a t-shirt, based on your very own measurements. Then you will make a muslin, fit it, correct your pattern, cut out the real shirt and sew it up! New skills you will acquire are sewing with knits, stretchy hem finishes, and finishing the neckline with a self band.  Once you’ve made your first, you’ll see how many possibilities there are are for all sorts of modifications. You might never buy another T-shirt again! For more details and list of required supplies, visit .

Talk: Letting the Lion Roar! Astrological Insights on the “Great American Eclipse” of August 21, 2017 (Saturday, August 19th, 5-7 pm)

Two eclipses will be taking place during the month of August – a partial lunar eclipse during the Full Moon on August 7th, and a total solar eclipse on the New Moon of August 21st. This upcoming Solar Eclipse, happening in the sign of Leo, belongs to Saros eclipse series 145 and has been dubbed the “Great American Eclipse”. It will be visible from coast to coast to coast across the US and likely viewed by more people than any other eclipse in human history, due to its path, which will cut through the midsection of the United States and include several major urban centers.

In this talk, we will discuss the basic astronomical setup of eclipses, but will mainly focus on their astrological symbolism – in particular, some noteworthy links between the August 21 eclipse, and the charts of the USA and world leaders (Leo – the sign of the Lion – is a traditional signifier for royalty, heads of state, and related issues regarding the governance of nations). Following this presentation, we will have an opportunity to briefly study participants’ natal charts to see what area of their lives the energy of this solar eclipse might affect.

$5.00 per person (including light refreshments)

Note: Birth date & time needed for accurate individual chart analysis.

Artist Exhibit: Brendan Mullally – Studies in Water and Ice (Sunday Aug. 6 & 20)

Opening: Sunday, August 6th, 2-6 pm
Meet the Artist! Sunday, August 20th, 1-5 pm

“Merging mirrored images of ice seems to open a window to a hidden dimension where other worldly creatures and deities emerge to tell their tale. As the two halves integrate, new worlds formulate. When I find one I want to visit, I freeze that moment so the window can remain open forever, beckoning a viewer to climb in and explore.” – Brendan Mullally

Visit RosenSpace in August to discover a unique photography collection created by local artist Brendan Mullally!

A wintry walk in Minnewaska State Park, and a friend’s chance discovery of evocative patterns within a frozen puddle, inspired Brendan to start chasing ice and manipulating the reflected images into photo art. The final products are the result of merging mirrored images in Photoshop. These images are organic – all of the colors are already hidden in the ice; Brendan simply pulls them out.

The August 6th exhibit will open right after the Rosendale Mermaid parade that’s taking place from 1-2 pm  (in keeping with the day’s aquatic theme 😉 )

Brendan himself will be present to discuss his work at the exhibit closing on Sunday, August 20th, from 1-5 pm.
